About The Artist

My name is Phillip Benz and welcome to Unique Spray Paintings.  For about two years now, I have been painting at festivals and community events in North Carolina.  By creating this website I hope to expand my audience and help to make this unique form of art well known.  It all started about five years ago when I saw someone in Alabama making amazing space scenes with spray paint.  There were no special stencils or nozzles, just a few torn magazines, flower pots, and of course spray paint.  Two years ago I was searching through videos on the internet when I stumbled upon Brandon Mcconnell.  Watching his videos reminded me of the guy I saw in Alabama.  The next day I bought a few cans of spray paint and took off.  It is not an easy process; like anything, you have to be fully committed and have to enjoy what you are doing.  Eventually I began getting better and better until one of my mom's friends offered to buy one from me.  Selling my first painting inspired me to go out and try my artwork at a local festival.  I was surprised by how good it turned out.  It turned out so well that I went on to make the local newspaper and paint the hood of a customer's car.

This is a 22in x 28in painting I made for Sacred Flames Tattoo shop. Like all of my paintings, this one was also made entirely of spray paint.

This is a 13in x 16in painting made for a good friend of mine. This one definitely tested my use of perspective.

This is a 20in x 14in painting made for another good friend. It is challenging making a praying mantis with spray paint!
